Introductory text
The Wankel rotary engine is a real adventure for Citroën in the 1960s. The drive for innovation leads the company to create the COMOTOR joint venture with Germany's NSU to produce Wankel engines. Citroën's first product is the prototype M35 coupe equipped with a one-rotor engine and hydraulic suspension.
But how can it performance be verified? By lending the first cars to loyal customers chosen at random for an original testing method: drive at least 30,000 km and report their impressions.
267 numbered cars are produced for the test between 1969 and 1971. All of them are painted pearl grey - except for a Delta Blue handle. Only 267? In fact yes, although the numbering on the front wings obscures the real figures and gives the impression having reached the planned volume of 500 prototypes!
